The Business Development Leader works to improve an organization’s market position and achieve financial growth. They will define long-term organizational strategic goals, build key customer relationships, identify business opportunities, negotiate and closes business deals and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions. Our BDL functions in a senior sales position within the company. They will work with the internal team, marketing staff, and other managers to increase sales opportunities and thereby maximize revenue for MAPEI. MAPEI Corporate Video

New Business Development

  • Prospect for potential new clients and turn this into increased business.
  • Responsible for the intro of all NEW products to include effective launch strategies, training functions, distributor inventory support and contractor’s acceptance resulting in sales objective achievements.
  • Effectively “connect the commercial project dots” between Architects, General Contractors, Distributors, Dealers and Sub Contractors.
  • Cold calling as appropriate within our markets or geographic
  • Set up meetings between client decision makers and company’s practice leaders/principals.
  • Plan approaches and pitches; work with team to develop proposals that speaks to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Participate in pricing the solution/service.
  • Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion; use a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate appropriately.
  • Present an image and an understanding of practices which mirrors that of any client.

Client Retention

  • Present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.
  • Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
  • Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs.

Business Development Planning

  • Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
  • Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
  • Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales.
  • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop MAPEI’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.

Management and Research

  • Submit monthly reports to the Area Sales Director and ensure data is accurate.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Travel moderate to high.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) or equivalent, plus 4-6 years of related sales/marketing experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Has extensive knowledge of construction and flooring industry standards; uses knowledge to help promote MAPEI’s standing within the industry.
  • Able to work with a sense of urgency, meet deadlines, establish priorities, and get jobs done in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintains high standards of personal ethics, supporting MAPEI's Code of Ethics.
  • Fulfills EMS Policy and process requirements as documented in site procedures and instructions and, in particular, is accountable for pollution prevention, waste recycling, continuous improvement and applicable environmental laws related to his/her job.

  • Ability to work independently and to travel throughout the assigned territory.

  • The position requires the ability to work with a personal computer in a Windows environment. Use Microsoft Office Suite software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, as well as using the Internet.
